Violist who attended Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music and studied with Lillian Fuchs.
Groups with whom he has worked include the Academie Philharmonic, the Diller-Quaile String Quartet, the Leonia Chamber Musicians, the Leonia High School Strings and Orchestra, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, the New York Chamber Soloists Orchestra, the New York Chamber Symphony, the New York City Opera, the New York Pops, the New York Viola Society, and Orpheus.
From 8th March through 22nd April 1990, he was in the orchestra pit for the New York City Opera’s revival of The Sound of Music by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.
He was back at the New York State Theater for the NYCO’s mounting of The Student Prince by Sigmund Romberg in August 1993.
On 24th January 1999, he and Kazuko Esaki teamed up for a performance of Ketil Hvoslef’s “Duo for Violin and Viola” at Landon Gallery, under the umbrella of the New York Viola Society.
He and Laurance Feder joined forces at the NYVS’s concert on 13th May 2002 in a recital of “Sonata for Two Violas” by Myriam Marbe.
On 9th March 2008, the Leonia Chamber Musicians appeared at All Saints Episcopal Church for an evening of music by Johannes Brahms, Albert Roussel, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and Carl Maria von Weber.
Rachel Barton Pine was the guest soloist of the New York Chamber Soloists Orchestra in University Auditorium at the University of Florida on 9th October 2011. The program comprised all five violin concertos of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
On 29th January 2012, Jack conducted the Academie Philharmonic in a concert of Ludwig van Beethoven’s fifth and sixth symphonies and fourth piano concerto, with Magdalena Baczewska at the keys.
The New York City Opera mounted a production of Prima Donna by Rufus Wainwright at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House in February 2012.
On 10th August 2012, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra performed Bela Bartok’s “Piano Concerto No. 3” with soloist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Witold Lutoslawski’s “Musique funebre (Muzyka zalobna)”, and Mozart’s “Symphony No. 39 in E flat major, K. 543”.
Recordings on which Jack appears include: Christmas by Candlelight by Randall Atcheson; Druzecky/Fusz/Backofen: Works for Basset Horn and Strings; the soundtrack of Powaqqatsi with music composed by Philip Glass; and, Prokofiev: Peter and the Wolf/Peter Schickele: A Zoo Called Earth/Gail Kubik: Gerald McBoing Boing.
In the field of music education, he has served as Orchestra and Strings Director at Leonia High School, Education Director of the New York Chamber Symphony, and founder of the Stravinsky Kids Production Company.
