She is a violinist and teacher born in Montreal, Canada, who began her musical studies in piano and violin when she was six years old. She went on to study at the University of Toronto and New York’s Juilliard School of Music and also attended Meadowmount Music Camp where one of her fellow students was Yo-Yo Ma.
In 1978 she won first prize in the Remenyi Competition and as a professional musician performed with the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic and the Toronto Chamber Players. In 1981 she became a violinist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and from 1985 she has been the Assistant Principal Second Violin. She has also performed at many national and international music festivals and with other artists and chamber ensembles in the Toronto area.
Her numerous recordings include Palace of Gold by Blue Rodeo, Ancient Muse by Loreena McKennitt, Grande Passion: World Sinfonia by Al di Meola, Country Croonin’ by Anne Murray, Adeste Fidelis by Gino and Louis Quillico and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Children’s Chorus, Mozart’s Magnificent Voyage and Hallelujah Handel in the Classical Kids series and the original cast soundtrack of Songs from Ragtime.
In the field of musical education she gives private violin lessons, has been the coach for the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and has been involved in the Toronto Symphony’s Early Years Programme for children and other educational projects. Her husband, Gary Gray, is a recording engineer who has produced some of the Symphony’s live recordings.
