Rhodes, David (2nd May 1956-Present)

He is a guitarist, singer, composer and producer born in London, England, to a family where his father was a doctor who also played a banjo ukulele.

He started out in music as an early teenager when he began to play the guitar.  Several years later, when he was 21, he became acquainted with David Ferguson and even though they were very inexperienced, they put together their own experimental band Manscheinen which later evolved into Random Hold.

Random Hold became successful fairly early and after being noticed by Peter Gabriel they became his opening act for his U.S. tour in 1980.  After the tour David decided to leave the group but remain working with Peter Gabriel.  This collaboration has seen him touring and recording with him ever since.

His work as a composer has seen him writing the music for the animation La Gabbianella E Il Gatto and Rabbit Proof Fence and being nominated for a Golden Globe for the soundtrack of The Long Walk Home which he worked on with Peter Gabriel and Richard Evans.

Production work has also been a big interest and he has worked in the recording studio with many artists in this capacity.  Also in the studio he has made his mark as a very sought after session musician.

In recent years he has worked with the drummer Ged Lynch and the bassist Charlie Jones in his own trio known as Rhodes.  They recorded their self-titled album in 2013.

Some of the numerous artists and groups he has worked with include Joan Armatrading, Blancmange, T-Bone Burnett, Toni Childs, Julia Fordham, Japan, Latimore, Loreena McKennitt, Youssou N’Dour, New Order, The Pretenders, Rick Springfield, Pamela Stephenson and Scott Walker.

As you can appreciate, the albums he has worked on in one capacity or another are numerous but a select few of them are his own Bittersweet and Heads, Hands & Feet recorded with Akira Inoue as well as Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos, Tim Finn by Tim Finn, Birdy, PG3 (Melt), So, Up and Us by Peter Gabriel, Magnetized by Johnny Hates Jazz, Flowers in the Dirt by Paul McCartney, Mystery Girl by Roy Orbison, Burn the Buildings, Etceteraville, Over View and The View from Here by Random Hold and the Colour of Spring by Talk Talk.
