Reed, Alto (16th May 1948-30th January 2020)

He was a composer, horn player, organist and saxophonist, born Thomas Neal Cartmell, who was pretty much with Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band since its inception in 1974.

He appeared on their debut album Seven and toured with them as part of Bob’s Face the Promise tour as recently as 2007, a year that also saw him contributing his virtuosity to a Michigan Military Families in Need benefit alongside former Silver Bullet guitarist Drew Abbott.

A budding film composer, he scored the Jeff Daniels films Escanaba in da Moonlight and Super Sucker.

He successfully crossed over into the contemporary jazz market with 1997’s Cool Breeze.

In December 2020 he died of colon cancer when he was 72 years old.
