Querze, Raoul (1934-Present)

He is a clarinetist and saxophonist who studied at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he earned his diploma.  He then went to complete four years service in Washington DC with the US Marine Band where he would often perform as a soloist.  On his return to civilian life he tok further studies at the Manhattan School of Music and earned his Bachelor of Music degree.

During his time in New York he performed on saxophone with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as well as on clarinet with the Aeolus Woodwind Quintet and the Goldman Band.

He moved in 1962 when he took on the position of clarinetist with The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1962.  He performed with the orchestra for the next 51 years before retiring at the end of the 2013 season.

Recordings he has performed on include Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5 and Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra.

In the field of musical education he taught many clarinet students.
