Perry, Michelle

She is a French horn player born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma who started by learning to play the piano when she was six years old and gave her first solo performance when she was seven.  She went on to later become a J. William Fulbright Scholar and studied at the Arizona State University

In 1997 she was the Principal Horn for the Australia Opera and Ballet Orchestra and was named a Yamaha Young Performing Artist and the following year she performed at the OK Mozart International Festival making another appearance there in 2000.  That same year she became the winner of the Ima Hogg International Solo Competition.  She has also performed the solo horn in Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 at the Tanglewood Music Festival and won many of the competitions she’s entered.

She has been the Principal Horn of the New World Symphony and the Malaysian Phillharmonic and also performed as a member of the Empire Brass and the Southwest Brass Quintet.  In 2005 she performed the Australian premiere of the Oliver Knussen Concerto for Horn and Orchestra with the New Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as the featured Guest Artist at the Melbourne International Festival of Brass.  The following year she gave a performance with the Kremlin Chamber Orchestra.

Having played on the world premieres, sometimes of group commissions, she has performed with many orchestras during her career to date and these include the Honolulu Symphony, the Milwaukee Symphony, the Oslo Radio Orchestra and the Phoenix Symphony.

As a freelance musician she performs in the Boston area and has toured Greece with the Alea III new music ensemble as well as appearing with the Boston Pops and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Her recordings include Baroque Music for Organ and Brass by the Empire Brass and Tuck and Roll by the New World Symphony Orchestra.

In the field of musical education she has worked with several outreach programs, given public performances and been the artist-in-residence for various schools.  She has also held several national and international workshops and made man appearances at many festivals and conventions.
