Pendrill, Christine

English horn player who has worked with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Duke Quartet, the London Symphony Orchestra, and The Philharmonia.

On 11th July 1996, she gave the world premiere of “The World’s Ransoming” by James MacMillan at Barbican Hall with the LSO.

She did the same for Judith Bingham’s “Billingbear:  The Ghost of an Elizabethan Mansion” at the International Double Reed Society’s convention in July 2009.

On 26th June 2012, the LSO teamed up with the London Philharmonic Choir and the London Symphony Chorus at the City of London Festival for a performance of Grande messe des morts (Requiem), Op. 5 by Hector Berlioz in St. Paul’s Cathedral.

The LSO offered up Des Knaben Wunderhorn by Gustav Mahler with tenor Ian Bostridge and soprano Dorothea Roschmann at the Barbican on 4th October 2012.  The concert opened with “Symphony No. 41 in C major, K. 551” (“Jupiter”) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

On 18th October 2012, they performed Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 5 in E flat major, Op. 73” (“Emperor”), with Simon Trpceski at the keys, and Sir Edward Elgar’s “Symphony No. 1 in A flat major, Op. 55”.

In the field of music education, she has taught at the Royal College of Music, passing along her knowledge to the next generation of English horn players, such as Jenny Brittlebank and Natalie Twigg.
