Osborn, Carolyn

Violinist who attended Buckley School, the Eastman School of Music and the USC Thornton School of Music, from whence she earned a Master’s of Music degree in performance.

Groups with whom she has worked include Amici Musicae, the Ariel Ensemble, the Downey Symphony Orchestra, the Hollywood Bowl Symphony Orchestra, the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic, and the Westlake Chamber Ensemble.

On 7^th July 1999, the Ariel Ensemble participated in the Seal Beach Chamber Music Festival with a recital of works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Zoltan Kodaly, and Darius Milhaud. Carolyn was also part of the Festival Quartet that performed string quartets of Franz Joseph Haydn, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Hugo Wolf on 4^th August 1999.

On 10^th September 2000, the Westlake Chamber Ensemble appeared at the Moorpark College Performing Arts Center, where they interpreted Bela Bartok’s “Contrast for Violin, Clarinet and Piano”, Cesar Franck’s “Sonata for Violin and Piano” and Tchaikovsky’s “Rococo Variations”.

Carolyn took part in a recital on 14^th February 2004 that included Adrienne Albert’s “Let Love Not Fail” and the world premieres of “One That Got Away” and “The Sun Has Burst the Sky”. The program was rounded out by songs of Leonard Bernstein, Earl Brent, Rudolf Friml, Ivor Novello, and Robert Schumann.

On 11^th October 2008, Amica Musicae offered up music by Beethoven, Felix Mendelssohn, Georg Philipp Telemann and HenrykWieniawski at the United Methodist Church in Westlake Village, California.

Carolyn was the soloist on 22^nd May 2010 when the San Fernando Valley Symphony performed Wieniawski’s “Violin Concerto No. 2”. The evening also included The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky and “Scherzo for Horn and Orchestra” by Charles Fernandez.

Recordings on which Carolyn appears include: Breath of Heaven: A Christmas Collection by Vince Gill; A Christmas to Remember by Amy Grant; Come By Me by Harry Connick, Jr.; A Merry Little Christmas by Linda Ronstadt; Mothers & Daughtersby Rosemary Clooney; The Movie Album: As Time Goes By by Neil Diamond; The Sinatra Project by Michael Feinstein; Steve Lawrence Sings Sinatra; and, A String of Pearls/LuminArias with violist Cynthia Morrow.

She has also performed on the scores of Battlestar Galactica: Season Four, Blonde, The Day After Tomorrow, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Joy Ride, Independence Day, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Little Children, Miss Spectacular, Mrs. Santa Claus, National Treasure, Rush Hour 2, The Salton Sea, and Smokin’ Aces. Gamers may have heard her on the soundtrack of BioShock 2.

In the field of music education, she has coached, given master classes and private lessons ,and taught at Pepperdine University. She is a member of The Dominant Music Club, the Music Teachers’ Association of California, and Professional Musicians Local 47.

Carolyn is also a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner and helps animals with behavioural, emotional, and physical issues.
