O’Brien, Tim

He is a baritone/bass singer, teacher and choral conductor who earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and English at the Gustav Adolphus College in 1999 before moving to the University of Minnesota where he earned his Master of Arts in Musicology in 2005. He then went to the University of Texas, Austin where he studied for his Doctorate in Musical Arts in Vocal Performance.

As a singer he has performed with several choirs and ensembles that include Austin Symphony Orchestra, Conspirare, the National Lutheran Choir, the Rose Ensemble who he also toured with, Portland Oregon’s The Ensemble, Ensemble VIII, Texas Early Music Project and he was a member of the Dale Warland Singers, who he recorded with and also worked as their Office & Personnel Manager from 1999 to 2000. As an operatic singer he has performed with both the Austin and Minnesota Operas.

Recordings he has performed on include The Separation by Andrea Kleine & Bobby Previte, Six Projects by Mike Olson and Christmas with the Dale Warland Singers and the Grammy nominated Walden Pond by the Dale Warland Singers.

In the field of musical education he has been a teacher and conductor at Gustavas Adolphus College, an Adjunct Instructor of Music at Concordia University and Graduate Instructor of Record at the University of Minnesota. After relocating to Austin, Texas he has been a faculty member at St. Edward’s University, a Lecturer of Voice at Texas State University. He has also been the Artistic Director of the Living Paper Song Project and the Director of Music at St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
