New, Dianne (1961/2-Present)

She is a violinist born in Edmonton, Alberta who started to study the violin at the Talent Education (Suzuki) Program when she was 3 years old. She took further studies with Ranald Shean and Thomas Rolston as well as attend several masterclasses.

When she was 18 years old, in 1980, she became a member of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and 8 years later in 1988 became Principal Second Violin. During her career with the ESO she has performed as a soloist with the conductors William Eddins, Franz-Paul Dekker and Ivars Taurins.

Orchestras she has performed with as Concertmaster include the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the Congress of Strings, the Arden Ensemble of St. Albert and the Canadian Touring Company of Phantom of the Opera.

As a chamber musician she has been broadcast and played across North America and was a featured musician in Washington D.C.’s Alberta at the Smithsonian. She has been a member of the Debut String Quartet, who she was with when she was a finalist at the 1986 Banff International String Competition and has also played for the Brian Webb Dance Company with the Schnittke Piano Quintet. Other chamber events she has featured in are with the Alberta Baroque Ensemble, at the Edmonton New Music Festival, in the University of Alberta Encounter series and in CBC’s Wednesday@Winspear series.

She performed the premiere of “Static” by Alex Eddington in 2005.

Recordings she has performed on outside the ESO include Tommy Banks’ Christmas Instrumental Music for the Holiday Season by Tommy Banks.

She is married to John McPherson who is Principal Trombone with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.
