Moses, John J. (26th February 1943-Present)

Clarinetist who attended The Juilliard School and the University of Michigan and studied with Joe Allard, John Mohler, and Bernard Portnoy.

Groups with whom he has worked include the American Symphony Orchestra, the Bronx Arts Ensemble, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the Eos Ensemble, the Little Orchestra Society, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, the New York Pops, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the P.D.Q. Bach Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, and the Westchester Philharmonic.

He has been in the orchestra pit for a number of Broadway musicals, such as Big, Candide, Crazy for You, Into the Woods, Jane Eyre, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway, Marie Christine, Merrily We Roll Along, The Mikado, Nine, Oh, Kay!, Oklahoma!, Porgy and Bess, The Rink, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Smile, Sweeney Todd, Titanic, and Wicked. He has won five Grammy Awards for his performances in Broadway theatre.

In the field of music education, he has taught at Brooklyn College, the International Taiwan Music Festival, Queens College, and The Riverdale Country School, and served as the director of the woodwind chamber music program at the Aspen Music Festival.
