Oboist from Bishops Stortford who attended the Royal Academy of Music from 1981 to 1985, and studied under the watchful eye of Lady Evelyn Barbirolli.
After graduation, he worked with the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra and the Halle Orchestra. In 1989, he joined the London Symphony Orchestra as their joint Principal Oboe.
The LSO offered up a mostly-Janacek program at Barbican Hall on 18th February 2007. The Janacek-fest—only interrupted by Johannes Brahms’ “Violin Concerto in D, Op. 77”—consisted of “The Fiddler’s Child”, “Jealousy Overture”, and “Taras Bulba”, with a generous solo oboe part for Kieron.
On 21st October 2012, Kieron passed away in a London hospital after a five-year battle with cancer. He was 49 years old.
Recordings on which he appeared include: Bach to Brubeck, Barber: Violin Concerto/Shostakovich: Violin Concerto No. 1, The Dust Bowl Symphony, Epiphany, Kenneth Fuchs: Canticle to the Sun/United Artists, Symphony No. 1 Inspired by The Lord of the Rings by Johan de Meij and Tippett: A Child of Our Time with the LSO, Fresh Aire 8 by Mannheim Steamroller, and Ideale: Songs of Paolo Tosti by Ben Heppner.
In the field of music education, he served on the faculty of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
