Mollenbeck, Markus (1962-Present)

He is a cellist and teacher born in Viersen, Germany who studied at the Folkwang Universitat der Kunste in Essen. He too further studies of baroque cello in Hilversum, The Netherlands.

He became a member of the Musica Antiqua Koln in 1992 and with them performed nationally and internationally as well as making many recordings and playing as a soloist in some cello concertos.

In 2000 he was a founder of the Arcangelo Trio as a chamber musician as well as appearing in many European music festivals. He has been a guest musician with various ensembles that include Capella Augustina, Concerto Koln, Freiburger Barockorchester, La Stagione and Musiciena du Louvre and has worked on several Handel operas at the State Opera of Hamburg as well as being a member of the Handel Festival Orchestra.

Busy in the recording studio he has appeared in albums that include Biber – Missa Salisburgensis, Concerti “Per L’Orchestra by Di Dresda”, Johann Adolf Hasse – Salve Regina, Johann David Heinichen – Dresden Concerti, Heinichen – Lamentations – Passionsmusik, Musica Baltica, Teleman – String Concertos and Francesco Maria Veracini – 5 Ouvertures by Musica Antiqua Koln along with Georg Friedrich Handel: Alcina with the Bayerisches Staatsorchester and Herbert Gronemeyer – Unplugged Herbert.

In the field of musical education he has taught many masterclasses and from 1996 to 2012 was a teacher of baroque cello at the Universitat der Kunste in Berlin. He has also taught at the Folkwang Universitat du Kunste in Essen and became Professor of Baroque Cello at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz/Bromberg, Poland in 2011. In 2015 and 2016 he worked as a tutor for the European Baroque Orchestra.

He has published Il Violoncello concertato which is 16 cello concertos from the repertoire of the 18th century.
