Community leader, journalist, newspaper publisher and vocalist whose leadership skills manifested themselves early when he became an Eagle Scout in 1948 and a Scoutmaster in 1958.
He graduated from The Hill School in 1953 and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1957.
From 1966 to 1968, he served as Captain in the United States Armed Forces’ 28th Infantry Division.
In civilian life, he became the director and secretary of the Quakertown National Bank in 1967 and has filled those roles to the present day.
He has also been President of the American Newspaper Publishers Association and the Pennsylvania Newspaper Publishers Association.
In the 1980s, he was a member and the president of the Quakertown Band and a trustee of The Berkshire Choral Festival, The Hill School, and the Upper Bucks YMCA.
He inherited publishing duties at the Quakertown Free Press, his family’s own newspaper, in 1969, and steered the ship until 1996.
From 1990 to 2005, he was a member and sat on the board of The Philadelphia Singers, the chorus-in-residence of The Philadelphia Orchestra.
