Mayer, Peter

He is a guitarist, singer-songwriter and teacher born in Tamilnadu, India, as one of eight children to a family where his parents were missionaries and his brother Jim now works with him as a co-musician.

They returned to St. Louis, Missouri, when he was eight years old where he would later take further studies in composition and theory at Webster University and go on to become a faculty member as a professor in jazz guitar.

In the 1980s he brought together his own The Peter Mayer Group, now known as PM, and saw success in 1988 with the single “Piece of Paradise” which achieved No. 8 on the Billboard chart after it had first appeared on his debut album.

His producer, Eliot Scheiner, was also asked to work on Jimmy Buffett’s album Off to See the Lizard and after having suggested PM to be used in the studio, they were taken on to be members of his Coral Reefer Band and have worked with him ever since.

Some of the albums he has appeared on during his career to date include his own Romeo’s Garage, PM and Green Eyed Radio and also Feeding Frenzy, Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup. Banana Wind, Take the Weather With You and Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads by Jimmy Buffett and the soundtrack of Arachnophobia.
