Lind, Loren N. (1945-Present)

He is a flautist born in Honolulu, Hawaii who studied flute in his school’s music program and later at the University of Hawaii.  He went on to study in Japan with the Principal Flute of the NHK Orchestra before relocating to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1969 and taking studies with Murray Panitz who was the Principal Flute of The Philadelphia Orchestra at Temple University.

In his career as a flautist he has performed with the Honolulu Symphony and the Philadelphia Lyric Opera Orchestra.  He became a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra in 1974 and remained with them until his retirement in August 2017 after 43 years service.

Playing as a chamber musician he has made regular appearances on The Philadelphia Orchestra’s Chamber Music Series and been a member of Temple University’s Conwell Woodwind Quartet, which he co-founded.

As a soloist he has performed with the Hawaii Youth Orchestra and the Honolulu Symphony.

Recordings he has performed as a featured artist include Russo/Hovhaness/Saturen/Hindemith/Bozza/Russo and Bernstein: Clarinet Sonata/Polin: Margo’a & Synaula II/Dello Joio: Concertante/Russo: 2 Studies and Excursions along with Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra.

In the field of musical education he has been a faculty member of  Temple University, which he joined in 1976 , University of the Arts and the Philadelphia International Music Festival.  He has been a coach at summer schools and was an original member of the Philadelphia Orchestra Media Institute.
