Lewis, Bryn

Harpist who attended the University of Surrey and studied with Jean Bell and Renata Scheffel-Stein.

In 1994, he became the principal harpist of the London Symphony Orchestra, a post he had held previously with the Philharmonia. Other groups with whom he has worked include the Berlin Philharmonic, the Bridge Quartet, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Hebrides Ensemble, Leipzig Gewandhaus, the London Mozart Players, the London Sinfonietta, the Nash Ensemble, the Northern Sinfonia, and Orqueasta de Cadaques.

He and double-bassist Rinat Ibragimov and violinist Gordan Nikolitch gave the world premiere of Dmitri Smirnov’s “Triple Concerto No. 2” with the LSO in May 2004.

On 1^st February 2012, he performed Claude Debussy’s “Danse sacree et danse profane” and “Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp” with members of the LSO at LSO St. Luke’s.

Recordings on which he appears include: Britten: The Complete Folksong Arrangements; Chamber Music by Jacques Ibert with the Bridge Quartet; Debussy: Les Chansons de Bilitis/Sonata for Flute, Viola & Harp/Violin Sonata/Cello Sonata/Syrinx; Holst: The Planets with the LSO; The London Violin Sound; and, Lawrence of Arabia and Mozart: Flute & Harp Concerto K. 299/Sinfonia Concertante K. 297B with the Philharmonia.

He can also be heard on the soundtracks of Brave, The Luzhin Defence, Tamara Drewe and The Woman in the Fifth, and the original London cast recording of Les Miserables.

In the field of music education, he has adjudicated at the North London Festival Camac Harp Competition, given master classes in Chicago, London and Rio de Janeiro, and served on the faculty of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
