Lesser, Diane

English horn player and oboist who attended the Juilliard School of Music, the New York String Orchestra Seminar, Norwalk High School, and Queens College.

In 1979, she became one of the first members of the newly formed Long Island Philharmonic.

Other groups with whom she has worked include Amici New York, the Brandenburg Ensemble, the Eos Ensemble, the Glorious Wind Quintet, the Greenwich Symphony, I Solisti da Camera, the Juilliard Orchestra, the Knickerbocker Chamber Orchestra, the Little Orchestral Society, Musica Sacra, the National Chorale Orchestra, the National Orchestral Association, the New Calliope Singers, the New York Pops, the New York String Orchestra, the Oratorio Society, the Voices of Ascension Chorus & Orchestra, and the Warner Bros. Symphony Orchestra.

On 14th November 2009, the Long Island Philharmonic celebrated its thirtieth anniversary with a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Fantasy for Chorus, Orchestra and Piano”, with the Long Island Philharmonic Chorus, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Piano Concerto in A major, K. 488”, with soloist Seymour Lipkin, and Franz Schubert’s “Symphony in B minor” (“Unfinished”).

The Chamber Players of the Greenwich Symphony opened their 2010-2011 season with a pair of recitals on 17th and 18th October at Round Hill Community Church and the Bruce Museum that included Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Sonata for Viola and Piano” and Samuel Barber’s “Summer Music for Woodwind Quintet”.

On 29th April 2012, they were back at Round Hill where Diane and pianist Andrew Gordon interpreted Francis Poulenc’s “Sonata for Oboe and Piano, Op. 185”.

In the field of music education, she has served as an adjunct lecturer as Queens College.
