Leertouwer, Detmar

He is a cellist and teacher born in the Netherlands who started learning music on the piano with his mother.  He moved on to the cello and too his studies at Utrecht Conservatory and later in Scotland at the International Cello Centre and Boston, Massachusetts on a Fulbright scholarship.

He took part in several competitions and was a winner at the Van Wassenaer Competition.  he was also a winner of the First Ensemble prize with I Musici Gelosi in the Schmelzer Wettbewerb.

During his career he has been first cellist with l’Orfeo Barockorchester Linz and has performed with various ensemble that include Barokensemble de Swaen, Concerto Koln, Le Concert des Nations, Musica Antiqua Koln and Salzurger Hofmusik. In 2014 he became a member of the reART Ensemle.

2006 saw him launching the dance/music programme Dialogue between a Dancer and a Cellist.

He has performed on several recordings which include Concerti “Per L’Orchestra by Di Dresda” and Heinchen: Lamentationes – Passionsmusik with Musica Antiqua Koln and Benedict Anthon Aufschnaiter – Serenades by L’Orfeo Barockorchester.

In the field of musical education he has been a teacher of baroque and modern cello, chamber music and performance practice at the Juan N. Corpas University and was a guest teacher at the Master’s Programme at Bogota’s Central University in Columbia and also in Trossingen, Germany.
