Lee, Diana

Vocalist whose early movie credits included 1963’s Bye Bye Birdie and 1967’s Doctor Dolittle, for which she dubbed the singing voice for Samantha Eggar. In the 1960s, she was one of “Dean’s Girls” on Dean Martin’s TV show. In 1968, as a member of The Norman Luboff Choir, she did more movie work on The Night Before Christmas. Other films on which she worked included 1969’s Goodbye Mr. Chips and 1971’s Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. (She provided the singing voice for Diana Sowle.)

In 1972, she was in the recording studio, supplying background vocals for John Klemmer’sWaterfalls. Likewise, she appeared on Robb Kunkel’s Abyss and dubbed the singing voice for LivUllmann in Lost Horizon, both released in 1973. In 1972 and 1974, she recorded Equinox Express Elevator with Howard Roberts. Other artists with whom she worked in the ‘70s include Bruce Johnston on his 1977 album, Going Public, and The Babys, on their 1978 release, Head First. In 1978, she also appeared on the soundtrack of Grease, and sang on the prog-rock band Triumvirat’s A la Carte. She did a musical 180 on Frank Sinatra’s 1979 boxed set, Trilogy.

One of her last credits appears to be on the soundtrack of Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi thriller, Blade Runner, although there are numerous opportunities to hear her on CD re-packagings and re-releases such as The Complete Capitol Singles Collection and The Complete Reprise Studio Recordings of Frank Sinatra, and the children’s album, What a Wonderful Thing is Me!, on which she performs the uniquely titled “You Don’t Hear Much about Elbows”.
