Lawson, Philip (19th February 1957-Present)

He is an English baritone who sang in the choir of the thousand year old church in Sussex, England as a child.  Before he left school he had attained the posts of choir master and organist.

He studied music at the University of York and sang countertenor in the choir of York Minster.  He moved to London and as a baritone he worked with choirs including the BBC Singers and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

He joined the choir of Salisbury Cathedral in 1982, and was a schoolteacher and buyer and seller of used music in Salisbury for over 10 years before joining the King’s Singers in replacement of Simon Carrington in 1993.

He is known for his work as an arranger and composer and left the King’s Singers in 2012 to pursue his writing career.

Here he is with the King’s Singers performing Freddie Mercury’s “Seaside Rendezvous”.  He’s the one with the beard…
