Lane, Martin (1944/5-March 2006)

He is an English countertenor born in Petersfield, Sussex, England, who attended Kings College Cambridge and received a law degree.  He was a freelance professional singer and became a founder member of the King’s Singers in 1968 and was with them when they gave their London debut.

Later that year a brain tumour was discovered and he had a lengthy stay in hospital which prevented him pursuing his career further.

Once he had returned home and still on a walking frame, he occasionally sang with the Winchester Cathedral Choir and then joined the Cathedral Choir in Portsmouth.

He passed away in 2006.
