Kushner, Eric

He is a horn player born in Louisiana, USA, into a family where his father William was a conductor and musician.  He started his life in music when he started taking horn lessons when he was 12 years old.  This led to him debuting as a soloist with the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra when he was 15.

In 1979 he went to Boston and entered the New England Conservatory.  He stayed there until 1982 before going to Detmold, Germany to further his studies with Michael Holtzel who was a professor at the city’s Hochschule fur Musik.

In 1984 he performed as Principal Horn of the Tonkunstlerorchester and after being with them for two years he took on the same position with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.

He has performed with Concentus Musicus and Ensemble Wien-Berlin and been a guest musician with orchestras that include the Lake Charles Symphony, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Rapides Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.  He has also appeared at several international and national music festivals.

He has also been credited on recordings such as Robert Schumann: Die Symphonien by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
