Violinist and violist from Achterhoek who attended the Arnhem conservatory, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the University of Michigan School of Music. In 1985, he graduated with a masters degree and did some free-lancing until landing a spot in the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. He appeared on Robert Long’s album, Lang Genoeg Jong, in 1999.
In the new millennium, he has been busy with Ensemble Bon Air, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra. The Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, in tandem with Groot Omroepkoor, rang in the holidays on 21st December 2002 with a performance of Roel van Oosten’s “Quatre Noels Anciens”, Arvo Part’s “Cantus in memory of Benjamin Britten”, Alexandre Tansman’s oratorio, Isaie, le Prophete, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on Christmas Carols”.
On 26th October 2007, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra offered up Sergei Prokofiev’s Egyptische Nachten, suite op. 61, Camille Saint-Saens’ “Concert voor piano en orkest nr. 5 op.103 in F”, and Igor Stravinsky’s Petroesjka. They teamed up with Groot Omroepkoor and the Nationaal Kinderkoor on 13th December 2008 for a concert of Mauricio Kagel’s Sankt-Bach-Passion. On 18th December 2009, the line-up was the same in a program that comprised Johannes Brahms’ “Twee motetten opus 29” (“Es ist das Heil uns kommen her” und “Schaffe in mir, Gott, ein rein Herz”), Anton Bruckner’s “Ave Maria”, and Vaughan Williams’ Hodie (a Christmas cantata).
The Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra interpreted Thomas Ades’ “Tevot”, Brahms’ “Symfonie nr. 1 in c opus 68”, and Vaughan Williams’ “Variaties over een thema van Thomas Tallis” on 15th January 2010. On 27th March 2010, they cooked up a French confection that included Claude Debussy’s La Mer, Henri Dutilleux’s “L’arbre des songes”, Rudolf Escher’s “Musique pour l’esprit en deuil”, et Bart Visman’s “ces concerts, riches de cuivre…”
Their concert on 17th April 2010 combined Victoria Borisova-Ollas’s “Wings of the Wind”, Sergei Prokofiev’s “Vijfde symfonie in Bes, opus 100”, and Sergei Rachmaninov’s “Tweede pianoconcert in c, opus 18”. On 17th September 2010, Aram Khachaturian’s Spartacus Suite shared the bill with Anatoli Liadov’s “Baba-Jaga” and “Het betoverde meer”, and Sergei Prokofiev’s “Pianoconcert nr. 3 in C opus 26”.
