Kozak, Anna

She is a violinist born in Poland who studied at the University of Toronto and the University of Calgary where she earned her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees respectively.

She has toured internationally with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and after winning an international audition became a member of the First Violin Section of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in 2001. Other orchestra she has performed with include the Kensington Sinfonia, Red Deer Symphony and the Okanagan Symphony.

She took time out from the ESO to pursue other development projects, including discovering Ukrainian piano and violin music with many works that are rarely played in Canada. She was awarded a grant from Edmonton Arts Council and working with the pianist Leanne Regehr she completed an independent residency in Calgary and presented the concert Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors.

A busy chamber musician she is a co-founder of the Onyx String Quartet and Tersona Piano Trio as well as the Chamber Orchestra of Edmonton where she is a board member and holds the position of Principal Second Violin. Other chamber ensembles she has performed with include Obsessions Octet, Strathcona String Quartet and Vad Ensemble and since 2003 she has been the Associate Concertmaster and soloist with the Alberta Baroque Ensemble. She has participated at the Tafelmusik Summer Institute in Toronto.

Recordings she has performed on include Tommy Banks’ Christmas: Instrumental Music for the Holiday Season by Tommy Banks and Obsession and Melodia by Kent Sangster’s Obsessions Octet

In the field of musical education she is a teacher at the Wye String Camp and occasionally coaches local amateur groups. She has her own private studio.
