Khaner, Lidia

She is an oboist and conductor born in Poland who studied at the Warsaw Academy of Music and graduated in 1987. After taking a sabbatical she took further studies in Germany at the Stuttgart Hochshule fur Musik.

Before she took her sabbatical she performed as a member of the Polish Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonia Varsovia, touring nationally and internationally as a soloist and orchestra member and while taking her further studies she performed with the Deutsche Kammerakademie.

In 1992 she became Principal Oboe with the Sinfonia Helvetica and remained with the ensemble for 5 years and in 1996 she became Principal Oboe with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in Canada. She retired from her position in the ESO in 2019 after performing with the orchestra for 23 seasons.

She has also performed as a soloist with the Alberta Baroque Ensemble,, ESO, the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra and is a founder, artistic director and conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of Edmonton.

As a conductor she earned her Masters degree in conducting at the University of Alberta in 2017. She has now been appointed as a conductor for Cosmopolitan Society bands.

Active in the recording studio she has released two CDs with the pianist Janet Scott Hoyt.

In the field of musical education she has been a faculty member as a chamber music and oboe teacher at the University of Alberta since 2002. On the conducting side of things she has participated in several conducting workshops.

Her husband was the late ESO cellist Timothy Khaner.
