Khaner, Jeffrey (22nd December 1958-Present)

He is a flautist and teacher born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada who studied at the Juilliard School.

In 1980 he served as Principal Flute in the Atlantic Symphony and the following year held the same position with the New York Mostly Mozart Festival.  Also in 1981 he became the Co-Principal Flute with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and remained there until 1982 when he became Principal Flute with thee Cleveland Orchestra.  He remained with the orchestra for 8 years until 1990 when he was given the Principal Flute position with The Philadelphia Orchestra.

In 1995 he was chosen by Sir George Solti to be Principal Flute of the World Orchestra for Peace which celebrated the United Nations’ 50th Anniversary.  The orchestra continues to give performances at international venues.

He is recognised for his solo performances and has given performances throughout North America and Asia, premiering several works and collaborating with many national and international conductors.

As a chamber musician he has given many performances and is a co-founder of the Syrinx Trio which debuted at Carnegie Hall in 2001.

In the recording studio he has released and been featured as a solo artist on CDS which include his own American Flute Music, British Flute Music, Czech Flute Music, French Flute Music, German Flute Msic, Brahms: Two Sonatas, Op. 120/Schumann Three Romances, The Romantic Flute along with Jan Krzywicki: Alchemy, David Chesky: Concerto for Violin and Orchestra/The Girl from Guatemala/Concerto for Flute and Orchestra and Ned Rorem: Flute Concerto-Violin Concerto.  Other recordings he has performed on include  Celebrating the Inaugural Season 1984-1985 and Claude Debussy: La Mer/Nocturnes/Prelude A L’apres-mimi D’un Faune by the Cleveland Orchestra, Hindemith: Mathis Der Maler – Symphonie/Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Von Weber/Nobilissima Visione-Suite and Peter Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 “Pathetique”/Dumka by The Philadelphia Orchestra and the compilations Gramophone Editor’s Choice: October 2005 and Romantic Adagio II.

In the field of musical education he became a faculty member of the Curtis Institute of Music in 1985 and joined the faculty of Julliard School as a flute professor in 2004.  He is the Professor of Flute at Lynn University and held master classes nationally and internationally.  He has also participated as a teacher and performer at several seminars and summer music festivals.
