Kay, Brian (12th May 1944-Present)

He is an English singer, conductor and radio presenter who was the original bass for the King’s Singers from 1968 to 1982.

After leaving the ensemble, as well as being the guest-conductor for many orchestras, he became a choral conductor of choirs that include The Leith Hill Festival Singers and the Huddersfield Choral Society.  As conductor of the Cheltenham Bach Choir he commissioned John Rutter’s Birthday Madrigals which is a cycle of Shakespeare settings by George Shearing, for whom this recording honours his 70th birthday.

He is the founder-chairman of The Association of British Choral Directors, Chairman of the Young Persons Concert Foundation and President of the Stars Organisation for Spastics.  He has held the position of Vice President of the Royal School of Church Music.

As a BBC presenter he writes and presents over 100 programmes a year, including the BBC Radio 4 Saturday night show Music in Mind. He and his wife, the soprano Gillian Fisher, were the voices of Papageno and Papagena in the film Amadeus.  In 1996 he was the recipient of the Radio Presenter of the Year at the Sony Radio Awards.
