Kay, Brian

He is a trombonist, author and teacher born in Urbana, Illinois, who studied at the University of Illinois and the New England Conservatory.

In his professional career as a musician he has been a member of the American Waterways Wind Orchestra, the Indian Hill Symphony, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Tim Zimmerman & The King’s Brass, Hanover Chamber Orchestra, the Handel and Haydn Society ensemble, the Boston Academy and Philharmonic Orchestra, the New England Chamber Brass, Apollo Brass Ensemble and Dave Rasmussen Jazz Orchestra and has performed back up for artists such as Aretha Franklin.

Appearing on several CDs he has featured on Christmas with Tim Zimmerman & The King’s BrassNot So Tenderly with the Dave Rasmussen Jazz Orchestra and recordings by the the Handel and Haydn Society.

As a teacher he has taught in Boston since 1991, been on the faculties of the Boston Conservatory, the New England Conservatory Preparatory Division and the Longy School and also taught in Haiti for two summers.

In the world of publishing he has written many teaching materials and Intermediate Trombone Methods Vol.1 and 2.
