Kappy, David (1949-Present)

He is a French horn player who earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Music degrees at the University of Wisconsin and has gone on to take further studies for his DMA at Yale University.

He went on to become a solo horn with the Lincoln (Nebraska) and Omaha Symphonies and with the Omaha Opera.  He has also been an extra horn at the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.  He was also been an original member of Mannheim Steamroller.

As a chamber musician he participated in the Claremont Music Festival, the Grand Teton Musical Festival and in Brazil at the Festival de Inverno.  He has also been a member of Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet.

Appearing on many recordings on various labels he has recorded include his own Gone as well as Fresh Aire II, Christmas, Fresh Aire Christmas, Christmas: Sweet Memories and Yellowstone: The Music of Nature by Mannheim Steamroller, Wolf Creek Pass by C.W.McCall, Classical Gas by Mason Williams and Mannheim Steamroller, Alec Wilder: Four Suites by Charles Tibbetts and Friends  and Tippett: Sonata for Horns/Schuller Pieces.

In the field of musical education he has taught at the Interlochen Arts Academy and the Federal University of Minas in Brazil after he was the recipient of a Fulbright Award in 1985.  He has also been on the faculty of the University of Washington in Seattle as Professor of Horn.
