She is an alto singer, conductor and teacher who received her degrees from the University of Iowa.
Working extensively with the conductor Robert Shaw she sang with many of his ensembles and took on the post of Assistant Conductor with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus. She has also been the Conductor of at least 20 All-State choruses and the Atlanta Symphony Youth Chorus and held the position of Musical Assistant with such ensembles as the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers and the Robert Shaw Festival Singers among others.
Her many recordings as a conductor and/or singer include Songs of Angels: Christmas Hymns & Carols by the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers and Holst: The Planets, Mendelssohn: Elijah, Szymanowski & Poulenc: Stabat Mater and Grand & Glorious: Great Operatic Choruses by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra & Chorus.
She has been a music emissary to France and Germany and as a teacher she has lectured on choral and vocal pedagogy in Brazil as a Fulbright Fellow and served on the faculties of Emory, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa and Wittenberg Universities. She has been at the Boston University College of Fine Arts since 1993 and retired as the Director of Choral activities and a Professor of Music in 2015. She won the Metcalf Award at the university in 2003, won the Robert Shaw Award in 2011 and the Distinguished Service Award from Chorus America in 2014.
