He is a multi-instrumentalist and singer who specialises in performing with period instruments such as the cittern, oud, thorbo, lute, laouto and Baroque guitar. He took a portion of his studies in Athens, Greece where he learned many stringed instruments from the Middle East and Mediterranean.
He has worked internationally with several ensembles and orchestras including the English National Opera, the Royal National Theatre, Opera North, The Sixteen, The Burning Bush, The Scholars, Matthew Best Consort and The New Scorpion Band.
He made an appearance in the television production of The Two Gentlemen of Verona as a lutenist in 1983 and in the films The Wicked Lady, Elizabeth I, Restoration and The Governess, and on the soundtrack of the TV series Cadfael and the movies Shipping News and The Gospel of St. John.
