Isomura, Sachiya

He is a Japanese cellist who studied at Tokyos’ Toho Conservatory before relocating to the United States and taking further studies at the Juilliard School of Music.  While at Juilliard he won the concerto competition and was the recipient of the Mrs. Crane Scholarship Award.

He became a cellist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra before becoming a member of the Minnesota Orchestra in 1979. He remained with that orchestra for 39 years where he played at numerous concerts, events and touring with them to Cuba, before his retirement in 2019/2020.

In 1997 he performed at the World Cello Congress in Russia which was led by the director Mstislav Rostropovich and has been a guest artist with ensembles that include Roseville Strings.

His daughter is the marimba player Eri Isomura who he has performed and recorded with.

Recordings he has been a featured performer on include Musical Moments for Cello and Marimba with his daughter Eri, Glorious (Classical, Hymns and Spirituals) and Christmas Blessings.

In the field of musical education he has taught many cello students, several who now have successful careers as cellists.  He has performed recitals in the Northwestern University Music Department Faculty Artist Performance Series.
