Iosco, Lorenzo (1985-Present)

Bass clarinetist and clarinetist from Potenza, Italy, who grew up listening to his grandfather play operatic pieces and 1930s songs every day on the clarinet. Inspired to take up the instrument himself, he joined the village band in San Giustino Valdarno. He attended the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory, which is located in Florence, and furthered his music education by studying with Dario Goracci and Carlo Failli.

After graduation, he became a member of Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma and the London Symphony Orchestra. Other groups with whom he has worked include the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Camerata Strumentale di Prato, the Italian Youth Orchestra, the Kantanti Ensemble, the London Conchord Ensemble, the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Nazionale della RAI, Orchestre Regionale della Toscana, the Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong, Teatro dell-Opera di Roma, and Teatro Real in Madrid.

On 11^th June 2010, the LSO offered up “Scherzo capriccioso” by Antonin Dvorak, “Symphony No. 6” by Dmitri Shostakovich, and “Violin Concerto” by Benjamin Britten, with soloist Mark Elder, at the Barbican.

Lorenzo made his debut solo performance in the U.K. with the Kantanti Ensemble on 15^th January 2011, when he interpreted the “Clarinet Concerto” of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

On 22^nd June 2012, he and violinist David Worswick gave the world premiere of Aaron Holloway-Nahum’s “Interaction” (based on The Interaction of Colour by Josef Albers) in a Soundhub Showcase Concert at LSO St. Luke’s.

In the field of music education, he has gone on to study conducting, given a master class to the YouTube Symphony Orchestra, and served on the faculty of the Royal Academy of Music.
