Educator and French horn player from New Haven, Connecticut, who attended Ithaca College and the Yale University School of Music.
On 18th December 1961, he and trombonist Edward Edwin, violist Lillian Fuchs, trumpeter Fred Mills and clarinetist Peter Simenauer interpreted Virgil Thomson’s “Sonata da Chiesa”, with the composer conducting, at Town Hall in New York City.
He became a member of the New York Brass Quintet and the New York City Ballet Orchestra in 1963 and 1965, respectively. About this time, he returned to his alma mater, the Yale School of Music, this time as a Professor of Horn.
On 20th October 1973, he and the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble gave the American premiere of Iain Hamilton’s “Voyage for Horn & Chamber Ensemble”.
He and pianist Artur Balsam and violinist Rachmael Weinstock performed works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Johannes Brahms, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Franz Schubert at the Manhattan School of Music on 10th February 1981.
In April 2000, he participated in the Third Northeast Horn Workshop at the College Conservatory of Music in Purchase, New York.
In addition to teaching at Yale, he has also held posts at the Manhattan School of Music and the Hartt College of Music.
Groups with whom he has worked include the American Composers Orchestra, the American Symphony Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra, the Camerata String Orchestra, the Casals Festival Orchestra, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Crofut Consort, the Incredible Columbia All-Star Band, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Minneapolis Symphony, the Modern Jazz Quartet, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, the National Orchestral Association, the New York Chamber Symphony, and the New York Pops.
