Ichinose, Miya

Violinist who attended the Berlin Philharmoniker Orchester-Akademie and the Royal Academy of Music.

Groups with whom she has worked include the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the European Union Youth Orchestra, the London Pleyel Trio, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the United World Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

On 3^rd February 2007, the LSO were joined by violinist Leila Josefowicz for a wall-to-wall John Adams concert that comprised “Dharma at Big Sur”, “Naïve and Sentimental Music” and “Slonimsky’s Earbox”.

They teamed up with soprano Angela Gherghiu on 8^th May 2007 in an evening of opera highlights that featured George Frideric Handel’s “Lascia ch’io pianga” from Rinaldo, Ruggero Leoncavallo’s “Stridono lassu” from Pagliacci, and Giacomo Puccini’s “Un bel di vedremo” from Madama Butterfly.

On 10^th August 2007, they gave the British premiere of A Flowering Tree by John Adams and Peter Sellars.

They performed Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev on 21^st and 23^rd November 2008.

On 14^th February 2009, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields performed “Concerto No. 1 for Violin in A minor, BWV 1041” and “Concerto No. 2 for Violin in E major, BWV 1042” by Johann Sebastian Bach, “Sonata for Strings” by Sir William Walton and “Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, Op. 10” by Benjamin Britten in Zellerbach Hall at the University of California-Berkeley.

The LSO presented “Russian Dreams: The Music of Sergei Prokofiev” in March 2009. It comprised all of his symphonies and violin concertos, and his second and fourth piano concertos.

On 15^th April 2009, the London Pleyel Trio interpreted Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Trio in G, K. 564” and Ignaz Pleyel’s “Duo for Violin and Cello, Ben. 506” and “Trio in C, Ben. 428” at Hatchlands Park in Guildford.

The LSO performed Gustav Mahler’s “Symphony No. 9 in D major” on 25^th October 2009.

On 5^th October 2010, they joined forces with violinist Sarah Chang for Felix Mendelssohn’s “Violin Concerto”, which was sandwiched between Sir Edward Elgar’s “Symphony No. 2” and Dorothy Ker’s “a gentle infinity”.

Nikolaj Znaider was the featured soloist when they performed Elgar’s “Violin Concerto” on 10^th November 2010. The evening opened with Emily Howard’s “Solar” and Mendelssohn’s “Symphony No. 3” (“Scottish”).

On 13^th November 2010, they reunited at the Grand Auditorium for Johannes Brahms’ “Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D major, Op. 77”, which was followed by Elgar’s “Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 36” (“Enigma Variations”).

They embarked on a Japanese tour on 23^rd November 2010 during which they performed “Symphony No. 1” (“Titan”) by Mahler and “Violin Concerto, Op. 47” by Jean Sibelius.

On 15^th December 2010, they were back at the Barbican for Max Bruch’s “Violin Concerto No. 1”, with soloist Midori, Gyorgy Ligeti’s “Concert Romanesc”, and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade.

They turned to Mahler again in February 2011 for concerts that included “Adagio” from “Symphony No. 10 in F sharp minor”, “Symphony No. 9 in D major”, and “Symphony No. 3 in D minor”, with the Brooklyn Youth Chorus and Riverside Choral Society.

Recordings on which Miya appears with the LSO include Beethoven: Mass in C, John Adams: A Flowering Tree, Mahler: Symphony No. 5, Mahler: Symphony No. 9, and Nielsen: Symphonies Nos. 4 & 5.
