Hunt, Gordon

Conductor and oboist from London, England, who studied under the watchful eye of Terence MacDonagh, and went on to become the Principal Oboe of the London Chamber Orchestra, the London Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, and the World Orchestra for Peace.

From 1991 to 1997, he served as the music director for the Swedish Chamber Winds.

Other groups with whom he has worked include the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Bournemouth Sinfonietta, the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the Danish Radio Sinfonietta, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Johannesburg Philharmonic, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the National Symphony Orchestra of South Africa, and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.

He appeared on a handful of recordings in the ‘90s, including Britten: Phantasy Quartet; Bax: Oboe Quintet; Bliss: Oboe Quintet, Le Nocturnes de Mozart, Soliloquy, and Strauss: The Concertos.

In 2001, he became the artistic director for the Danish Chamber Players, a post he held for two years.

He performed a portion of Tomaso Albinoni’s “Concerto in D minor” at the wedding of the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince of Wales in 2005.

The new millennium has been chock full of CDs bearing Gordon’s name: Best Wedding 50, Best Wedding 100, Elevazione – The Magic of the Oboe, 18^th Century Concertos for Timpani and Orchestra, Essential Vivaldi, Mercadante: Maria Stuarda, and Verdi: Opera Choruses, Overtures & Ballet Music.

In 2011, he participated in The International Master Class for English horn and oboe at the University of Ostrava in the Czech Republic. He is also an adjudicator at the triennial International Oboe Competition, which is held in Tokyo, Japan.

Gordon is also on the faculty of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and an Honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
