Hryciw, Robert

He is a violinist and Suzuki violin teacher who was taught by the first Suzuki teachers that came to Canada in 1965 and studied at the University of Alberta where he warned his Bachelor of Music degree.

He became a member of the Edmonton Sympony Orchestra and remained with them for 45 years before retiring in 2021.

As a chamber musician he played with the Alberta Baroque Ensemble, Canadian Chamber Orchestra (Banff) and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

Recordings he has performed on include Music from the Repertoire of the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers, Return of the Whirlwind and A Celebration of Youth by the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers.

In the field of musical education he has taught the Suzuki violin since 1977 and became a faculty member of the Society of Talent Education (STE), where he was the first to be accepted into its 3 year training program.  He was the Co-Music Director for 2 years and Program Co-ordinator of the STE for 10 years.  He has been an observer at several Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) institutes and has audited and been a participant in teacher training units for the SAA.  He left the faculty of the STE in 2021 and went on to co-found the Edmonton Suzuki Strings.

His daughter is the bassoonist Lisa Hryciw.
