Hou, Qing

She is a violinist born in Lanzhou, China to a family where her sister is the violinist Lei Hou and first studied at the Central Conservatory of Beijing.  In 1988 she moved to the United States and earned degrees at the New England Conservatory and Peabody Conservatory.

She became a member of the San Francisco Symphony and later moved on to joining the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1997.

Performing as a soloist she has played in China along with American orchestras in Baltimore, Boston and Chicago, where she made her solo debut in 2003.

As chamber musician she has performed in several national and international music festivals, played for the Andover Chamber Music Society, several ensembles local to the Chicago are and on NPR’s Performance Today.

With her sister ad her husband Lawrence Neuman, who is a CSO violist, she founded the Lincoln String Quartet in 1997.

Recordings she has played on include Verse by Patricia Barber, Lullaby by Justin Roberts and Brahms: Violin Concerto/Sonata No. 3 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
