Horoshevsky, Igor (25th October 1926-26th December 2007)

Cellist  born in China to Russian parentage who had moved to the USA and attended three years at Hollywood High School, in the class of 1945 and enlisting in February of that same year.

After his military service he became a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony and toured with Percy Faith and his Orchestra before becoming very active in the studios, especially with The Beach Boys and Shirley Horn.  He appeared on Brian Wilson’s prog-rock project Spring in 1972 and Bruce Johnston’s Going Public in 1977, then joined The Beach Boys for Keepin’ the Summer Alive in 1980.

Igor appeared on the following Shirley Horn albums:  But Beautiful:  The Best of Shirley Horn, The Complete Gershwin Songbooks, Here’s to Life, Jazz ‘round Midnight, Quiet Now—Come a Little Closer, ‘s Marvelous—The George Gershwin Songbook, Ultimate Shirley Horn, and Verve Remixed.

Other artists with whom he recorded include David Foster, Leah Kunkel, The Manhattan Transfer, Julia Migenes, Nina Simone, and Frank Sinatra.

He also helped set the mood on the Lalo Schifrin soundtracks to The Amityville Horror (1979) and Sudden Impact.

Igor was a twenty-plus year member of the Hollywood Y.M.C.A.
