Hombsch, Hans (30th March 1935-28th January 2009)

He was a trombonist, composer, arranger and teacher born in Munzig, Germany, who performed with groups such as the Ludwig Guttler Brass Ensemble and Staatskappelle Dresden.  He was also a soloist with the Rundfunk Blasorchester in 1970.

In 1985, along with Gunther Emmerlich, he was the co-founder, trombonist and arranger of the Semper-House-Band.  The Tokyo Times named him “the best trombonist in the world” at one point.

His compositions include works such as Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra and his arrangements have been performed by orchestras that include Berlin Philharmonic.

He has taught at the Dresden Hochschule fur Musik and has written journal articles such as Forty Five Years of Playing Bass and Contrabass Trombone (1956-2001): “Staatskapelle Dresden”.
