Multi-reed musician who appeared on the soundtracks of Ben-Hur and Touch of Evil and collaborated a great deal with Ella Fitzgerald. He played bassoon on The Best of the Songbooks, Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Johnny Mercer Songbook, and The Very Best of the Songbooks. He also made the cut on Ella’s boxed set, The First Lady of Song, Jazz ‘Round Midnight, and Jazz ‘Round Midnight Again.
In the early ‘50s, he blew the saxophone with Frank Comstock and His Orchestra on It’s a Lovely Day Today, and on the Doris Day LP, It’s Magic. He switched to clarinet on Jack Kane’s 1958 release, Kane is Able.
On 28th December 1973, he appeared with the Los Angeles Woodwind Quartet, back on bassoon this time, as part of the South Bay Chamber Music Society, Inc.’s series of concerts. The program ranged from music of Baroque composer Domenico Scarlatti to modern composers such as Sergei Prokofiev and Jean Francaix. Six years later, he appeared on Frank Sinatra’s boxed set, Trilogy.
