He is a cellist, music director and teacher born in St. Catherine, Ontario who studied at the University of Toronto, the Royal Conservatory of Music and took his further education in the United States and Europe where he counted Paul Tortelier as one of his teachers.
He became a member of the Toronto Symphony in 1970, with who he is currently the Assistant Principal Cellist, and has also given solo performances with other orchestras such as The Symphony Orchestra of Canada, the Niagara Symphony and the Saskatoon Symphony.
His work in chamber music has seen him performing as a member of The Art of Time Ensemble, co-founding the Accordes string quartet and in 1985 he was also a co-founder of the Amici Chamber Ensemble. He has recorded successfully with both these ensembles and was a Juno award nominee with Accordes for Harry Somer’s String Quartets. He was also the soloist on Talivaldis Kenin’s premiere recording of his cello sonata.

As a music director he works at the Inter-Provincial Music Camp in Ontario and as a respected coach, he works with the cellists of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra.
In the field of musical education he is a member of the faculty at the Glenn Gould School in the Royal Conservatory of Music where he gives classes in chamber music and cello.
