Hershow, Russell

He is a violinist born in New York City who started learning the violin with his father.  He then took studies at the Juilliard School and earned his Bachelor’s degree at Indiana University School of Music.

He took part in various competitions and appeared at music festivals and at Tanglewood and went on to join the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in 1987.  Two years late, in 1989, he performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and just a few months later became a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Throughout his time with the CSO he has given many concert performances, made several recordings and toured Europe in 1989 with Sir Georg Solti.  During these years he has also been busy in Chicago as a chamber musician and has performed as a member of the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra.

Recordings he has performed on include Corigliano: Symphony No. 1, Samuel Barber: The Lovers; Prayers of Kierkegaard, Wagner: Overtures and Preludes and Brahms: Violin Concerto/Sonata No. 3 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Come On Up by Brian Culbertson.

In the field of musical education he has given several master classes.
