Herndon, Mark Joel (11th May 1955-Present)

He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts.  His father was a marine pilot so the family traveled a lot, but finally settled in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

He played the circuit with various bands before joining the group Alabama as their drummer in 1979 and remained with them until their Farewell Concerts in 2003/4.  After these concerts the band sued him for moneys he was allegedly overpaid after the tour was finished.

In 2016 he published his autobiography The High Road: Memories From a Long Trip.

He is also a licensed pilot.
