Henderson, Dougie

He is a drummer from Pollok, Glasgow who performed with several bands while still a teenager.  These include performing with The Mad Hatters when he was 15 years old and touring Germany with the band.  He went on to perform with The Chevlons, who recorded songs such as “Too Long Alone”  and “It’s My Problem” and when he was 17 appeared on the TV Show Top of the Pops.

He became a member of The Poets in the mid 1960s who were a well known band in Scotland.  They went to London but had returned home to Glasgow when his ex-band mate Hugh Nicholson got in touch with him in 1971 and asked him to join The Marmalade.

He replaced the original drummer Alan Whitehead, who had been sacked by Hugh Nicholson, which caused unwanted publicity for the band when Whitehead had given stories to the The News of The World newspaper.  He remained with the band until 1974 and performed on the hit records “Our House is Rocking”, “Radancer” “(Your Wish Is In) The Wishing Well” and “Cousin Norman”.

Following differences of opinion with the band he decided to leave the music business and went on to work at the Jean Armour pub in Glasgow.
