Hackleman, Allene

She is a horn player and teacher born in Vancouver, British Columbia who studied with her father, the horn player Martin Hackleman, and went on to graduate with honours from the Interlochen Arts Academy and earned her Bachelor of Music in performance degree at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Her long-term career development residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts was completed in 2004 and that same year she became a member of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra where she hold the position of Principal Horn.  She has also performed with several other orchestras that include the Alberta Baroque Ensemble, the Evansville Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, the National Symphony, Red Deer Symphony, the Victoria Symphony and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra.

As a chamber musician she has been a featured artist at the 2010 Women’s Brass conference and been a guest artist at the Edmonton Recital Society, the Festival of the Sound in Parry Sound, the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival ad the Pender Harbour Chamber Music Festival.  She has performed with the Garneau String Quartet, is a member of the Canadian National Brass Project and joined the Summit Brass ensemble in 2007, performing on CDs by the latter two.

In the field of musical education she is on the faculty of the University of Alberta and Rafael Mendez Brass Institute and has also given masterclasses in Serbia after being invited by the Musikacademy in Belgrade.
