Cellist from Wurzburg who attended the State Academy of Music and the University of Music and Performing Arts. His teachers included Valentin Erben, David Geringas, Rudolf Gleissner, Frans Helmerson, Ksenija Jankovic and Janos Torok.
Groups with whom he has worked include the Ariosa Quartet Stuttgart, Collegium Viennese, Ensemble Urlicht, the German Bundesjugendorchester and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
On 19th October 2005, Collegium Viennese collected at Haus Hofmannsthal where they interpreted Josef Fiala’s “Oboe Quartet in E flat major”, Jan Adam Frantisek Mica’s “Quartet in C major”, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Oboe Quartet in F major” and Franz Alexander Possinger’s “Trio in F major, Op. 16”.
The Eight Cellists of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra appeared in Brahms Hall at Musikverein Wien on 4th December 2007. Their recital featured Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio (Cantatas I-III) and Heitor Villa Lobos’s “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5”, with mezzo-soprano Elisabeth Wolfbauer.
On 25th September 2010, they took the stage at the Centre des Arts Pluriels Ed. Juncker where they performed the “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 1” of Villa-Lobos, “Barcarolle” from Tales of Hoffman by Jacques Offenbach, “Die Moldau” from Ma Vlast by Bedrich Smetana and a suite from Swan Lake by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Michael and pianist Soojin Anjou, violinist Claire Dolby, violist Vera Reigersberg and bassist Ernst Weissensteiner participated in the Bregenz Festival on 21st August 2011. Their program comprised “The Bagpiper’s String Trio”, “I Broke off a Golden Branch” and “Piano Trio” by Judith Weir, and “Sonata for Piano” by Hyacinthe Jadin.
On 26th November 2012, the Eight Cellists of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra gave a benefit concert at Tiroler Landeskonservatorium. Highlights included “Akrostichon, Op. 237a” by Ernst Krenek, the overture from Manon Lescaut by Giacomo Puccini and a suite from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky.
