Greenbank, Kathryn

Oboist who attended the Curtis Institute of Music and studied with Richard Killmer, John de Lancie, Louis Margaglioni and Richard Woodhams.

In 1982, she became principal oboe of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.  Other groups with whom she has worked include the Blue Baroque Band, the Boston Symphony, the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony, the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

On 27th March 2009, she was the featured soloist when the SPCO performed the “Don Quixote Suite, TWV 55:G10” of Georg Philipp Telemann.  The program was rounded out by “Concerto Grosso in G, HWV 318” (“Alexander’s Feast”) by Georg Frideric Handel, “Orchestral Suite No. 1 in C, BWV 1066” by Johann Sebastian Bach and “Violin Concerto in E flat, RV 253 (“La tempesta di mare”) by Antonio Vivaldi.

She interpreted the “Oboe Concerto” of Benedetto Marcello with the SPCO on 28th November 2010 at Ted Mann Concert Hall in Minneapolis.  Also on the program were Concerti Grossi Nos. 3 & 4, Op. 6 by Arcangelo Corelli, and “Brandenburg Concerto No. 5” and “Orchestral Suite No. 4” by J.S. Bach.

On 4th February 2011, she and violinists Steven Copes and Ruggero Allifranchini and violists Maiya Papach and Sabina Thatcher performed the “Phantasy Quartet for Oboe and Strings, Op. 2” at the Music Room in Saint Paul.

She reprised Benedetto Marcello’s “Oboe Concerto” with the SPCO at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi on 24th January 2013.  The centerpiece of the concert was The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi.

In the field of music education, she has coached the New World Symphony, given master classes and workshops on oboeforeverone.com, served as an adjudicator at the SPCO Youth Chamber Music Competition and taught at the University of Minnesota.
