Goldstein, Rachel

She is a violinist born in Iowa City, Iowa who started learning the violin when she was five years old, as her older sister already played, and began studying at the Purchase music school at the State University of New York when she was 16.  Her studies were interrupted when she decided to switch from music to geology but she returned to music again after six months and graduated when she was 19.  Continuing her studies she went to the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she eared her master’s degree.

She went on to perform with the Sacramento Symphony for two years in the mid-1980s and in 1989 became a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the leadership of Sir Georg Solti.

Recordings she has performed on include Corigliano – Symphony No. 1, Wagner – Overtures and Preludes and Brahms – Violin Concerto/Sonata No. 3 by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra

She is married to the bass player Stephen Lester who also performs with the CSO.
